St Paul’s Notices

Tree WorkFrom Monday 16th to Wednesday 18th July, major tree work will be taking place in the church grounds.  Please take extra care.

August Notice Sheet – There will be one Notice Sheet covering 5th – 26th August.  Please send any notices for inclusion in this edition to Stephanie by 30th July.

Book Clearance – We are reorganising our lending library, and are about to donate a number of volumes to Book AidPlease feel free to look through the various titles at the back of church and take any home.  They will be available until next Sunday.

A big thank you from Alison Dockray for the generous donations towards her walk for Welcare today.   She will be at the 10.30am service next Sunday, 22nd July, if anyone would still like to contribute.

St Paul’s Book Club next meets on Tuesday 7th August at 10.30am, when we will be hearing some poetry or prose from each other and discussing future books to read.

Coffee, Theology and Discussion - Interested in theology?  Want to learn more about the Christian faith?  In the Autumn we will be running an 8-week introductory course on Christian theology.  This is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the core themes and doctrines of our faith, in a relaxed, non-threatening environment.  All are welcome on this course, based on Professor Alister McGrath's helpful little book, Theology: The Basics.   Dates: Tuesday evenings, 25th September – 20th November (with a break for the half term).  Do ask Rev. Simon for more info.  There is a sign-up sheet available at the back, or via administrator@stpaulbeckenham.org.uk

International Evening – Saturday 29th September, from 5pm.  Save the date for St Paul’s International Evening, to be held on our harvest weekend at the end of September.  Please start thinking about what sort of dish you could bring to the Bring & Share supper, and what national dress you could wear.

Tea & Coffee – Many thanks to the Beckett Homegroup for serving tea and coffee today.  Next week the Brackley Homegroup will be on duty.

Summer Sermon Series: A Six Week Shake Up.  We hope you've enjoyed the sermon series this term looking through Genesis and the Psalms.  Over the summer period, for the next six weeks (from 22nd July – 2nd September), we'll be looking through the book of James in the morning, and 1 Peter in the evening.

Faith in Action - In the morning services, we'll be thinking about the practical difference faith should make to our lives.  Who better to teach us than James, who is keen to show how faith and ethics, belief and behaviour, go hand in hand.

A Holy Calling - In the evening, we're going to delve into Peter's first letter to the scattered churches of the 1st century.  He is determined to encourage the disheartened, and to remind all his readers of their high and holy calling in Christ.

Mission of the Month –  Wycliffe Bible Translators

Wycliffe Bible Translators encourage their teams of workers to translate God’s Word and then make it available in creative ways.  Please pray for Julian and the team working on the Yakar* translation, who have started posting quotes from Proverbs on Instagram and Facebook.  We pray for wisdom as they experiment with social media in this way and that these posts will find their way into people’s newsfeeds, encouraging the few believers to be strong in their faith, and speak to the hearts of those who do not know Him.   (*Yakar is a pseudonym)

Community Notices

The Sunday Conversation – with Gary Byfield, MET Police Inspector.  Life can be messy, even for those who are supposed to be in control.  Gary’s is a story from turbulence to peace.  Sunday 22nd July, 6.30 for 7pm, Christ Church Beckenham.  Please note change of date and that it is not taking place tonight (15th July).

Foodbank – in July we are supporting Living Well.  Please put all non-perishable food items (no pet food please) in the clear plastic box in the north aisle.
