St Paul’s Notices

Book Clearance – Today is the last chance to take any of the books on the table at the back, before they are donated to Book Aid.

August Notice Sheet – There will be one Notice Sheet covering 5th – 26th August.  Please send any notices for inclusion in this edition to Stephanie by Monday 30th July.

Children’s Groups – Huge thanks to all our crèche, Sunday Squad and Youth Group volunteers.  They are taking a well-deserved break, from 29th July to 2nd September (inclusive).  During this time, activity sheets and puzzles will be provided in the south aisle, and the crèche space will be available in the hall for parents/carers to use.

St Paul’s Book Club next meets on Tuesday 7th August at 10.30am, when we will be hearing some poetry or prose from each other and discussing future books to read.

The Bereavement Group will not be meeting in August but will start again on Saturday 1st September at 10am.

Autumn Clean – The morning of Saturday 8th September is a time set aside to do those jobs in the church and halls that need doing periodically, eg removing high-up cobwebs and cleaning pew shelves.  Please put the date in your diaries – any help would be much appreciated.  All cleaning materials will be provided and coffee/tea and cakes/biscuits!

Coffee, Theology and Discussion - Interested in theology?  Want to learn more about the Christian faith?  In the Autumn we will be running an 8-week introductory course on Christian theology.  This is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the core themes and doctrines of our faith, in a relaxed, non-threatening environment.  All are welcome on this course, based on Professor Alister McGrath's helpful little book, Theology: The Basics.   Dates: Tuesday evenings, 25th September – 20th November (with a break for the half term).  Do ask Rev. Simon for more info.  There is a sign-up sheet available at the back, or via administrator@stpaulbeckenham.org.uk

Please see newsletters from Julia Birkett and from Nick and Harriet Algeo on the noticeboard at the back of church.

Tea & Coffee – Many thanks to the Brackley Homegroup for serving tea and coffee today.  Next week the Number 24 Homegroup will be on duty.

Summer Sermon Series (22nd July – 2nd Sept) -  James and 1 Peter

Faith in Action - In the morning services, we are thinking about the practical difference faith should make to our lives.  Who better to teach us than James, who is keen to show how faith and ethics, belief and behaviour, go hand in hand.

A Holy Calling - In the evening, we are delving into Peter's first letter to the scattered churches of the 1st century.  He is determined to encourage the disheartened, and to remind all his readers of their high and holy calling in Christ.

Mission of the Month –  Wycliffe Bible Translators

Julian and Catherine feel God has given Julian unique gifts, skills and experience to continue to serve His purposes for the Yakar people.   As we support Julian and Catherine in their work with Wycliffe Bible Translators, we pray for Julian as he applies again for a visa for Russia.  We pray for all the detailed work as Julian continues to work with the Yakar team with the translation, checking and production and recording of books of the Bible while he and the family live in Bournemouth.  We pray for God to be at work amongst these people, turning their hearts to Him.

If you would like regular news of Julian and his work please do add your name to the list for “Shelton Snippets” on the table at the back of church under the Mission of the Month board.
