St Paul’s Notices

Children’s Groups – Huge thanks to all our crèche, Sunday Squad and Youth Group volunteers.  They are taking a well-deserved break, from 29th July to 2nd September (inclusive).  At the 10.30am services during this time, the space in the church halls is available for young children and babies with their parents/carers.  For those making use of this facility, we have arranged to have the service broadcast via an audio link.  Toys, activity sheets and puzzles will be provided.

Many thanks for the generous support to Alison Dockray, Parish Rep for Welcare, who raised £500 as a result of a sponsored walk in aid of Welcare.

August Notice Sheet – There will be one Notice Sheet covering 5th – 26th August.  Please send any notices for inclusion in this edition to Stephanie by Monday 30th July.  Please note that the office will be closed the week beginning 6th August.

St Paul’s Book Club next meets on Tuesday 7th August at 10.30am, when we will be hearing some poetry or prose from each other and discussing future books to read.

The Bereavement Group will not be meeting in August but will start again on Saturday 1st September at 10am.

Autumn Clean – Saturday 8th September, 9am – 12 noon is a time set aside to do those jobs in the church and halls that need doing periodically, eg removing high-up cobwebs and cleaning pew shelves.  Please put the date in your diaries – any help would be much appreciated.  All cleaning materials will be provided and coffee/tea and cakes/biscuits!

Coffee, Theology and Discussion - Interested in theology?  Want to learn more about the Christian faith?  In the Autumn we will be running an 8-week introductory course on Christian theology.  This is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the core themes and doctrines of our faith, in a relaxed, non-threatening environment.  All are welcome on this course, based on Professor Alister McGrath's helpful little book, Theology: The Basics.   Dates: Tuesday evenings, 25th September – 20th November (with a break for the half term).  Do ask Rev. Simon for more info.  There is a sign-up sheet available at the back, or via administrator@stpaulbeckenham.org.uk

Tea & Coffee – Many thanks to the Number 24 Homegroup for serving tea and coffee today.  Next week the Clockhouse Homegroup will be on duty.

Mission of the Month –  Wycliffe Bible Translators

Following the vision of the Wycliffe Bible Translators to translate the Bible for the Yakar* people, please pray for the recordings and other projects, like producing Bible stories books for children in their mother tongue which they speak every day but do not often read.  We pray for Anya, the local team leader, and her husband, Jacob, and their initiatives so that the Yakar* people can learn of the powerful stories of God’s sovereignty and of God’s people standing firm in a hostile environment, thus making the God of the Bible known.
